Exercise Tradewinds is a U.S. Southern Command-sponsored event aimed at improving the collective capabilities of defense forces and constabularies in the Caribbean. In 2021, Guyana hosted the exercise, involving 350 ranks from the GPF and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), along with participants from 12 partner nations. Training covered military skills, close-quarters combat, marksmanship, emergency medical evacuation, search and rescue, and mechanical repairs for air and water transport. In 2023, Guyana again hosted Exercise Tradewinds, with over 1,500 personnel from 21 countries participating. The exercise focused on maritime interdiction, inter-agency collaboration, cyber operations, small unit infantry tactics, and humanitarian assistance, including simulated oil spill and flood response scenarios.
